Trump agrees not to use foreign help in 2020 campaign

President Trump on Monday agreed not to use any information stolen from foreign adversaries in his 2020 reelection campaign.

“Well, I never did use, as you probably know,” Trump said, when asked by a reporter in the Oval Office whether he would make the commitment. “That’s what the Mueller report was all about. They said, ‘No collusion,’ and I would certainly agree to that. I don’t need it.”

Trump also sarcastically said he likes the looks of the 2020 Democratic field.

“All I need is the opponents that I’m looking at,” the president said. “I’m liking what I see.”

One of Trump’s 2020 opponents, Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand, has already vowed not to use stolen foreign data in her campaign. The Democratic National Committee has also condemned the use of stolen information.

Special counsel Robert Mueller, who investigated possible cooperation between the Trump campaign and Russia, concluded in a report released last month that no collusion took place between the Trump campaign and the Russian government during the 2016 presidential election.

Trump’s remarks came during a photo op before a bilateral meeting at the White House with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
