Vice President Mike Pence said he and President Trump will continue to shake hands with people for the near future despite the spread of the coronavirus.
“As the president has said, in our line of work, you shake hands when someone wants to shake your hand,” Pence said at a press conference Tuesday. “And I expect the president will continue to do that. I’ll continue to do it. What this is is a broad recommendation for Americans, but a really good recommendation is to wash your hands often.”
According to a former West Wing official, Trump will keep his rallies going as long as possible despite his germaphobic nature. “He is going to resist until the very last minute,” the source said.
The president so far has shaken hands with several officials that have had contact with an individual who tested positive for the virus.
So far, there are 647 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the United States, and 25 people have died. Washington state has been hit hardest, with 162 confirmed cases.
