Who: National Aeronatics and Space Administration
What: Paid $66 a person a day for bagels, cookies, and juice at a 2008 conference for procurement officials who do purchasing for the agency with taxpayer funds. The conference took place at a Hilton in Baltimore, costing a total of $495,173 for 317 people — more than $1,500 per person.
Why it’s an outrage: The conference featured a session on how to determine a reasonable price. The irony is too rich.
