Biden leads pack in Iowa State Fair’s corn kernel poll

Joe Biden still leads the Iowa State Fair’s WHO-HD’s “Cast Your Kernel” poll. The unscientific survey of fair attendees allows Republicans and Democrats to cast a kernel toward their favored candidate.

According to WHOTV, 49% of Democrats have voted in the poll compared to 51% percent of Republicans for their respective party candidates.

With 25%, the former vice president leads his closest competitor, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, by 9 points, as of 2 p.m. local time. Over 19,450 kernels had been dropped into candidate jars. South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg is tied with Warren at 16%. Meanwhile, California Sen. Kamala Harris has 11%.

Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who wowed Iowa Democrats at the state fair in 2015, is in the single digits with 8%. Nineteen Democratic candidates currently garnered 4% support or below.

On the Republican side, President Trump has 97% support against former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld, who has 3%.

The polling numbers of the candidates are subject to change, as the informal poll as not closed just yet.

During summer 2015, before Iowa voters caucused, Hillary Clinton and Trump won their respective party kernel polls. Clinton went on to defeat Sanders in the Iowa caucus, though Trump came in second behind Texas Sen. Ted Cruz when Iowa Republicans caucused.
