Navy suspends search for three missing sailors in Philippine Sea

The Navy suspended search and rescue operations for three sailors who were not recovered when a C-2A Greyhound aircraft crashed in the Philippine Sea last week.

Eight people were rescued, and three were not recovered. But the Navy said it could not locate three others despite a search of almost 1,000 nautical square miles.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with our lost shipmates and their families,” said Rear Adm. Marc Dalton, Commander, Task Force 70. “As difficult as this is, we are thankful for the rapid and effective response that led to the rescue of eight of our shipmates, and I appreciate the professionalism and dedication shown by all who participated in the search efforts.”

The Navy has not identified the missing sailors, and will first notify their families.
