Metro set a new record for highest Saturday Metrorail ridership this weekend, the organization announced Sunday. Officials estimate that more than 825,000 trips were taken as people flocked to the National Mall for Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s “Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear.” Saturday’s total surpassed the 1991 Desert Storm rally on June 8, 1991, which saw about 786,000 trips. The average Saturday Metrorail ridership is usually about 350,000.
