Biden campaign shrugs off Trump ‘election is not over’ claims

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s campaign indicated they’ve been prepared for President Trump not to concede defeat in their race for the White House.

“As we said on July 19, the American people will decide this election. And the United States government is perfectly capable of escorting trespassers out of the White House,” Biden spokesman Andrew Bates told the Washington Examiner.

As of Friday morning, Biden has 264 electoral votes to Trump’s 214. The two-term vice president and 36-year Delaware senator leads in four of the five states yet to be called after Tuesday’s 2020 election, including Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, and Pennsylvania.

The Trump campaign responded to the president losing his advantage in Georgia and Pennsylvania overnight by signaling they would continue challenging the returns.

“This election is not over. The false projection of Joe Biden as the winner is based on results in four states that are far from final,” Trump campaign general counsel Matthew Morgan said.

Morgan foreshadowed a recount in Georgia while alleging voter irregularities in Pennsylvania and Nevada.

“Finally, the president is on course to win Arizona outright, despite the irresponsible and erroneous ‘calling’ of the state for Biden by Fox News and the Associated Press,” he said. “Biden is relying on these states for his phony claim on the White House, but once the election is final, President Trump will be reelected.”

The Biden campaign released a similar statement on July 19 after Trump declined in a Fox News interview to say whether he would accept the outcome of the election.

“I have to see. Look, you — I have to see,” he said. “No, I’m not going to just say yes. I’m not going to say no.”
