Bed Bath & Beyond is blaming a misinformed employee for confusion about whether it sells Ivanka Trump-branded products.
Shannon Coulter, the founder of the #GrabYourWallet movement, which pressures stores to drop Trump products or face a boycott, tweeted a screenshot of an email from a Bed Bath & Beyond customer service representative saying, “At this time, we are no longer carrying Trump merchandise.”
The retailer later took to Facebook to deny the claim.
“Our customer service representative inadvertently provided information to a customer that was not accurate,” the Facebook post read. “We are not making our merchandising decisions based on anyone’s political beliefs. We have Ivanka Trump products in some stores and carry them where consumer demand and business performance justifies it.”
The retailer’s website does not currently list any Trump products.
Several retailers have cut terms with the first daughter’s brand amid growing calls to boycott Trump-branded products. Nordstrom announced in February it would no longer sell Trump eponymous clothing line, citing a decline in sales.
Neiman Marcus followed suit by no longer carrying Trump’s jewelry line on its website. Employees of T.J. Maxx and Marshalls were told to discard signage advertising her brand.
