An Orange for teacher

Did Sekou Biddle and Patrick Mara split the white vote? Was Bryan Weaver’s profile just too low? Never you mind what propelled Vincent Orange to win the D.C.  Council at-large seat on Tuesday, for the teachers’ union can safely tell us: It was the teachers’ union.

“It was a very close race, and the Washington Teachers’ Union made the difference in the outcome of both elections,” said union President Nathan Saunders, referring also to the group’s school board endorsement of Trayon White.

The union backed both, and look what happened, Saunders explains in a press release titled “Washington Teachers’ Union Endorsements Make the Difference.”

“We threw our full support behind these individuals because of their strong commitment to creating and implementing policies to support DC public school teachers, students and families,” Saunders said. “WTU looks forward to collaborating with White and Orange to improve public education for WTU members and the entire community.”
