Man shot by officer in Anne Arundel dies Anne Arundel County Police are investigating an incident in which a man died after being shot by an officer responding to a domestic assault call.

Shortly before 6 p.m. Friday, police were called to the 800 block of Frost Valley Lane in Gambrills. Upon approaching the residence, an officer could hear a woman screaming.

The officer entered the home and encountered Gary Petrie. The officer and Petrie had a physical altercation during which the officer discharged a departmental handgun, officials said.

Petrie was struck in the upper body and taken to R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma where he died from his injuries, officials said. The woman heard screaming was taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities said the officer involved was a four-year veteran of the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Western District.

Maryland woman dies in Loudoun County crash

A Maryland woman died Saturday morning after the pickup truck she was driving struck a tractor-trailer, authorities said.

Barbara Whitener, 27, of Olney, was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene, according to Virginia State Police. The tractor-trailer’s driver, Richard Poole of Zebulon, N.C., was treated for minor injuries at Landsdowne Hospital.

Shortly before 8 a.m., a Virginia State Police trooper was called to Route 15 about one mile south of Harmony Church Road in Loudoun County. Police said that the pickup truck struck the tractor-trailer in its driver’s side fuel tank.

Motorcycle driver killed in Prince William County crash

A man was killed Saturday morning in a crash in Prince William County, police said.

Police responded to the area of Joplin Road and Park Headquarters Road in Triangle around 9:45 a.m. The crash involved a motorcycle and a vehicle.

The motorcycle’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was reported injured, police said.
