A carbon monoxide leak Wednesday morning caused the Baltimore County Fire Department to evacuate all residents from Virginia Towers, which houses seniors and the disabled in Towson.
Three residents were transported to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries that fire officials said were related to the evacuation, not carbon monoxide poisoning.
About 50 firefighters arrived at the building at 7:22 a.m. Baltimore Gas and Electric was working to locate and repair a burned underground cable that feeds the building, firefighters said Wednesday afternoon.
All residents whose apartments had a positive carbon monoxide reading were being evacuated to a nearby senior center.
The Virginia Towers has 150 units with 150 residents.
Contingency plans are in place should residents need to be sheltered overnight, according to the fire department.
No one will be allowed to re-enter the building until power has been restored, firefighters said.
