Tesla ‘lost a customer’ in actor Glenn Howerton

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor Glenn Howerton complained about his faulty Tesla in a rant Monday.

Howerton told a story about having to leave his car in a Los Angeles parking lot overnight because the car’s keyless entry system and key fob were malfunctioning. Tesla explicitly states on its website that a “phone and vehicle must both be actively connected to cellular service to allow the mobile app to communicate with your vehicle” and that drivers should “always have a functional physical key readily available if parking in an area with limited or absent cellular service, such as an indoor parking garage.”

Howerton did not share which of Tesla’s four models he owns but claimed he would not buy another one again. When neither the app on his phone nor his newly fixed key fob worked to turn on the car, Howerton called Tesla’s roadside service and support team, and to no avail. The actor opted to call the sales line in an attempt to reach a Tesla employee.

“I was like, ‘You guys lost a customer today. I’ve been a Tesla customer for 10 years,'” Howerton said of the phone call.

Then, the salesperson transferred Howerton to another Tesla employee, who still was not able to offer any help. The person said there was nothing they could do, according to Howerton.

“It sent me into a rage,” said Howerton. “Every step of the way throughout this journey, every single thing that could go wrong went wrong.”

Finally, the actor was able to move the car out of the garage without any help from Tesla, instead finding a tow truck small enough to fit into the parking garage. It was quite the feat, as Howerton was unable to put the car in its “transport mode,” which prevents damage and overheating.

Overheated Tesla models have a reputation for causing massive fires that require thousands of gallons of water to extinguish.
