Jaime Areizaga-Soto’s state Senate campaign is hoping calling out opponent Barbara Favola, the current chair of the Arlington County Board, for accepting donations from county developers.
The two Democratic candidates for the 31st state Senate Distrcit seat have been sparring about the issue over the last several months. Areizaga-Soto says Favola should resign from the Arlington County board because of the contributions she’s accepted from developers, including a $25,000 donation from John Shooshan, president of Shooshan company, which has several properties in Ballston and Virginia Square.
Now Ariezaga-Soto’s campaign is sending out direct mail to voters about the contributions.
“Barbara Favola’s vote is up for sale,” the flyers read, citing a Washington Examiner article saying 44 percent of Favola’s current donations were from real-estate developers.
Favola has told The Examiner in the past that all her actions are legal. Calls to her Thursday were not returned.
The Democratic primary is slated for Aug. 23.
