America’s freight railroads play a critical role in the economy. Whether it’s big city businesses, small town store fronts or rural farmers, freight railroads move the raw materials American industry needs and the finished products Americans want. But railroads move more than just goods; they play an essential role in moving our nation’s economy by creating jobs, developing innovative technology and investing in the nation’s transportation infrastructure.

Creating Jobs

America’s freight railroads are hiring!  Railroads are on track to hire an estimated 11,000 people in 2013 and more than 20 percent of those jobs will go to military veterans.  Railroading is more than just a job, for many it is career with an average compensation, including benefits, of $108,900 per year, more than 65 percent higher than the national average.
