A skier suffered a fatal fall Sunday afternoon in Grand Teton National Park’s Death Canyon in Wyoming, according to the National Park Service.
Grand Teton National Park rangers and Teton County Search and Rescue found Radcliff Spencer, 27, unresponsive after a witness reported seeing Spencer fall while attempting to ski the Apocalypse Couloir, the park service’s statement said.

Resuscitation efforts were performed on Spencer — a Jackson, Wyoming, resident — but they were unsuccessful due to the nature of the injuries, the park service added.
Skiers described the area that Spencer fell in as “highly technical and dangerous.”
Spencer’s remains were transported out of the park by authorities to the Teton County coroner. Four members of Spencer’s party were transported out of the canyon by helicopter, the park service said.

The park service said the snowpack remains “generally stable” following the fatality but that hazards still exist and could cause “high consequences in technical terrain.”
