Rapper Black Rob dies at 51

Rapper Black Rob has died at the age of 51.

The rapper died after battling kidney failure in an Atlanta hospital on Saturday, according to multiple outlets. Entertainment manager Kal Dawson confirmed the news in an Instagram video posted Saturday night.

“Yo, man, yeah, yeah, it’s true,” Dawson said in the video.

The entertainment manager said it was “f—ed up” that Black Rob died because he “tried to get this man some help.”

“I did what I could do,” he said while tears streamed down his face as he explained his efforts to help the late rapper.

Dawson tagged DJ Self, saying the radio personality also reached out to help Black Rob.

DJ Self confirmed he tried to help Black Rob in an Instagram post.

“Lord knows i tried to get help …… I’m sad to say RIP to Black Rob ….. Passed away in the hospital in Atlanta,” DJ Self wrote.

Last week, DJ Self posted a video of Black Rob from his hospital bed speaking about the recent death of rapper DMX.

“I feel everything about X, man,” Black Rob said while expressing his love for DMX, who died earlier this month at the age of 50.

Born Robert Ross on July 12, 1969, Black Rob signed to Bad Boy, a record label created by hip-hop media mogul Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, in the 1990s. In early 2000, he released the hit single Whoa!, reaching the Billboard Hot 100, before signing to independent label Duck Down Records in 2010.

The rapper was sentenced to seven years in prison for grand larceny in 2006 in connection with a November 2004 hotel robbery, according to Billboard. He was released from prison in May 2010 and was interviewed by Black Entertainment Television two hours later.
