White House condemns King’s ‘somebody else’s babies’ comment

The White House distanced itself on Tuesday from a series of controversial comments made by Republican Congressman Steve King about his desire to make the U.S. more “homogenous.”

In a tweet posted over the weekend, King called for an end to Muslim immigration to the U.S. and said, “We can’t restore our civilization with somebody else’s babies.”

“The president believes that this is not a point of view that he shares,” White House press secretary Sean Spicer told reporters when asked for Trump’s reaction to the Iowa Republican’s tweets.

Trump “believes that he’s a president for all Americans,” Spicer added.

King doubled down on his comments during a CNN appearance on Monday, saying he “meant exactly what I said.”

“If you go down the road a few generations, or maybe centuries, with the intermarriage, I’d like to see an America that is just so homogeneous that we look a lot the same,” King said.
