BACKPACKING
April 12: Backpacking 101, Vienna, 7:30. The Potomac Appalachian Trail Club is holding this class to provide basic instruction in equipment selection and use, and techniques to enhance safety and comfort. CYCLING
April 17: Group riding, Washington, 10 a.m. The course by the Washington Area Bicyclists Association teaches cyclists how to ride in a group safely, including how to ride predictably, with proper lane positioning and emergency bike handling. Info: waba.org.
RUNNING
April 14: Firebirds Mile, Gaithersburg, 7 p.m. The Montgomery County Road Runners Club is sponsoring this 1-mile track race at Gaithersburg High School. Info: mcrrc.org.
