Security company employed shooter since 2007

A leading security company confirmed that Omar Mateen, the killer behind the worst mass shooting in U.S. history, worked for the company since 2007.

G4S Security Solutions said in a statement reported on CNN that Mateen worked for the company since Sept. 10, 2007. His employment continued even though Mateen was on an FBI watch list for potential contacts with people the FBI was targeting.

Mateen reportedly opened fire at a crowded Orlando gay nightclub called Pulse and killed at least 50 people and sent 53 to the hospital. He died after a confrontation with police.

G4S Security said on its website that it provides security for federal agencies. It posts jobs for positions such as customs officers.

Law enforcement is still trying to figure out the exact motivations for the shooting but is investigating it as an act of terrorism.

Multiple outlets reported that Mateen called 911 before the shooting and pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.
