Warm, but not record-breaking, temperatures in D.C. this week

It may feel more like May than March this week, but temperatures in the Washington area aren’t expected to best existing record highs.

The National Weather Service predicts high temperatures in the District will range from about 69 degrees today to nearly 80 on Friday.

The record highs for this week all are above 80 degrees. On March 12, 1990, a record of 89 degrees was set at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, according to Weather Service records.

The records for today, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday were all set in 1990, while Friday’s record high was set in 1945, according to Weather Service records.

While you’ll probably want to leave your winter coat at home this week, you still may want to bring your umbrella. The Weather Service predicts a 60-percent chance of rain tonight, a 30-percent chance of rain on Tuesday and a 30-percent chance of rain Friday.

The average high temperature on today’s date in Washington is 54 degrees.
