Construction on a long-awaited, 2.5 million-square-foot development near Gallery Place is finally getting underway. Officials have announced that City Center DC will have its official ground breaking ceremony Monday at 2 p.m.
Phase I is approximately 1.3 million square feet and will include two office buildings, two apartment buildings totaling 460 units, two condo buildings totaling 216 units and 185,000 square feet of retail space. The massive undertaking will also create two new streets that cut through the property, which now serves as an open parking lot bounded by 9th, H and 11th streets and New York Avenue, NW.
When complete, the development will total 400 hotel rooms, 216 condominiums, 458 apartments, 294,600 square feet of retail space and 514,700 square feet of office space.
