Michigan man gets 13 stitches after attempting to move Trump-Pence sign rigged with razor blades

A Commerce Township, Michigan, employee got 13 stitches on his hands after he attempted to move a Trump-Pence sign that had been booby-trapped with razors.

The 52-year-old building inspector was removing signs around the township, just outside Detroit, that violated a city ordinance on sign placements. Signs are not allowed to be closer than 33 feet from the center of the roadway, according to the city rule. The razor-rigged sign was 24 feet away, according to a news release from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

“When he went to remove one of the signs, he was cut by razor blades that had been attached to the bottom edge of the sign,” the sheriff’s office said. “Both signs removed from that location had several razor blades taped all along the bottom edge. He received lacerations to three fingers which required medical attention.”

Township Supervisor David Scott told WDIV, “He pulled over, reached down to grab it. … He actually thought it was electrified. He jumped and let go of it, looked at his hand, and realized he was bleeding aggressively.”

Scott said that there was no damage to any of the employee’s nerves or tendons in the three fingers that were lacerated, but a tourniquet was required to stop the bleeding. The employee has limited use of the hand.

The sheriff’s office said that two signs with razors attached to them were found.

The homeowner who placed the signs said signs had previously been stolen from his or her property but had reappeared after the homeowner returned from a trip.

Township officials told WDIV that they may seek legal action following the incident. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said it will continue its investigation.
