FBI to search Mike Pence’s home for classified documents: Report

The FBI is reportedly set to search former Vice President Mike Pence‘s home in Indiana for additional classified documents in the coming days.

Pence and Justice Department officials are currently working on scheduling the search, per the Wall Street Journal.

FBI FINDS NO CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS AT BIDEN’S REHOBOTH BEACH HOME

The former vice president told the National Archives last month he found classified documents from his time as vice president — after former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden were found to have classified documents improperly stored.

Lawyers for Pence say they discovered two boxes of classified documents in his Indiana home on Jan. 18, along with another two boxes that had copies of vice presidential papers, according to CNN. The classified materials were reportedly disclosed to the National Archives immediately upon discovery, with the Archives informing the Justice Department of the matter. He also informed relevant congressional committees of the findings on Jan. 24, when the discovery of the documents was made public.

The number of classified documents is unknown, and the DOJ has not said if it has or will take action on the former vice president’s discovery of classified materials.

Mike Pence
Former Vice President Mike Pence said he takes “full responsibility” after classified documents were found at his Indiana home while speaking at Florida International University, Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, in Miami. Pence was talking about the economy and promoting his new book, So Help Me God.

He conceded that “mistakes were made” when speaking about his mishandled classified documents at Florida International University last week.

“While I was not aware that those classified documents were in our personal residence, let me be clear: Those classified documents should not have been at my personal residence,” Pence said. “Mistakes were made, and I take full responsibility.”

Both of Biden’s residences and his office at the Penn Biden Center have been searched by the FBI for further classified documents. Biden’s Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, home was searched by the FBI on Wednesday, with the president’s lawyers saying no additional classified documents were found during the search.

Trump had his residence at Mar-a-Lago searched by the FBI in August 2022 after the National Archives suspected he had not turned over all materials from his presidency.

The searches of Biden’s properties have been done in coordination with the Justice Department and his lawyers, while the search of Mar-a-Lago was not coordinated with Trump’s lawyers.

The Justice Department has appointed special counsels to investigate Biden and Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified materials. Jack Smith was appointed to investigate Trump, and Robert Hur was appointed to investigate Biden. Smith is also investigating other matters related to the former president, including his role in the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.

The Washington Examiner reached out to the Justice Department for comment. The FBI declined to comment, deferring to the Justice Department.
