Clinton up double digits over Trump in Colorado

Hillary Clinton carries a substantial lead over Donald Trump in Colorado, according to a new Monmouth University poll of voters in the battleground state.

The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee earns 48 percent support among Colorado voters, while 35 percent back Trump. A survey released Tuesday by the conservative polling firm Harper also showed Clinton leading her Republican opponent in the Centennial State, but by a smaller margin of seven percentage points.

Clinton enjoys far more support (93 percent) among self-identified Democrats in Colorado than Trump does among the state’s Republican voters (78 percent) and has a 12-point lead among independents.

With the exception of men, who split 40-39 percent for Trump versus Clinton, the real estate mogul trails the former secretary of state among women (56-30), voters age 50 and under (51-26) and minorities (66-15). Clinton also leads Trump among white voters in Colorado (44-38), a key demographic that Trump has typically done better among in both national and other state-level polls.

Both candidates remain mostly unpopular among voters in Colorado, with 50 percent of respondents holding a negative view of Clinton and 64 percent feeling the same toward Trump. Thirty percent of voters said neither major party candidate can be trusted to “look out for the little guy.”

The poll of 404 Colorado voters was conducted July 9-12. Results contain a margin of error plus or minus 4.9 percent.
