Joe Biden: World leaders would rather have America’s problems

Joe Biden said Tuesday that he hasn’t met a world leader who wouldn’t take America’s problems over their own.

“I’ve met every single major world leader in the last 44 years. Just the nature of my job,” the former vice president said. “I don’t know a single one who wouldn’t trade places with America’s problems in a heartbeat. So what the hell are we doing?”

Biden made the remarks while delivering the keynote address at a forum on the future of the middle class, put on by the Brookings Institution and the Biden Foundation.

During his hourlong speech, Biden touted the importance of a stable middle class, but didn’t place the fault on the upper class for the wealth gap.

“I love Bernie but I’m not Bernie Sanders. I don’t think 500 billionaires are the reason we’re in trouble. The folks at the top aren’t bad guys. But this gap is yawning. And it’s having the effect of pulling us apart,” Biden said according to CNN Money’s Lydia DePillis.

The Biden Foundation also runs the Biden Forum, which holds policy discussions about advancing the middle class.
