The Senate Judiciary Committee has scheduled a hearing next month concerning the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, after announcing earlier this month the hearing would be delayed.
The hearing, entitled: “Oversight of the Administration’s Decision to End Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals,” will be held on Oct. 3, in response to President Trump push to phase out DACA.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced earlier this month DACA would be rolled back under the Trump administration within six months, allowing Congress time to pass legislation.
Former President Barack Obama established DACA through an executive order in 2012. It applies to approximately 800,000 illegal immigrants ages 15-36 who arrived in the U.S. when they were minors.
