Don Jr. and Ivanka Trump testify before NY AG investigators: Report

Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump reportedly testified before investigators with the New York Attorney General’s Office regarding a civil inquiry into the family’s business practices.

Trump Jr. gave his testimony last week, while Ivanka Trump testified Wednesday, and neither invoked Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination during questioning, CNN reported. Former President Donald Trump is reportedly expected to answer questions for the inquiry later this month.

NEW YORK ATTORNEY GENERAL AGREES TO DELAY TRUMP DEPOSITIONS OVER IVANA’S DEATH

Details about what the two Trump children said in their deposition are not clear. The Trump family was expected to testify in the inquiry last month, but that was delayed out of respect following the death of Ivana Trump. The depositions mark the culmination of a monthslong legal tangle between New York Attorney General Letitia James and the Trump family.

James subpoenaed the trio for testimony late last year, but they responded with multiple court appeals aimed at quashing the subpoena. Eventually, in June, a judge threw cold water on their appeals and enabled a prior court order demanding their compliance to go into effect.

The attorney general opened her sprawling inquiry into the Trump family empire in 2019 after former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen testified before Congress that the Trump Organization was manipulating its asset valuations for financial gain. He alleged the company would increase its valuations when seeking business deals and decrease them for tax purposes.

Trump has adamantly denied any wrongdoing and derided the inquiry as a “witch hunt.” But James has insisted in court documents that her team has found evidence to back some of Cohen’s claims.

James’s office told the Washington Examiner it has “no comment” on reports of the depositions.

In addition to the civil inquiry, the Trump Organization is reportedly facing a criminal investigation from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. In April, Bragg clarified that the Trump family was not off the hook in his inquiry. However, his office has reportedly been apprehensive about bringing charges against Trump because he is not convinced his team could win that case.

Trump is also the subject of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’s inquiry about whether crimes were committed by Trump allies who sought to challenge the 2020 election in Georgia.
