Trump rails against California for suing to block his emergency declaration

President Trump singled out California after that state and 15 others sued him for declaring a national emergency to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Trump said it was no surprise that the states are challenging him in federal court in San Francisco — a court which Trump says is biased against him — and argued that a border wall will cost less than the California’s failed high-speed rail project.

“California, the state that has wasted billions of dollars on their out of control Fast Train, with no hope of completion, seems in charge!” Trump tweeted Tuesday.

“The failed Fast Train project in California, were the cost overruns are becoming world record setting, is hundreds of times more expensive than the desperately needed Wall!” he wrote in another tweet.

Last week, Trump said California should have to return $3.5 billion to the federal government for the rail project that is more than a decade behind schedule and over budget.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom shot back: “This is CA’s money, allocated by Congress for this project. We’re not giving it back. The train is leaving the station — better get on board! (Also, desperately searching for some wall $$??)”

Newsom said last week that the rail project that was meant to take passengers from Los Angeles to San Francisco would be scaled back.
