Indiana Senate hopeful Evan Bayh has identified himself repeatedly in public records as a Washingtonian, according to a report, a revelation that fueled charges of opportunism from his critics Monday.
CNN has the story:
Since belatedly jumping into the race to replace the outgoing senator Dan Coats, Bayh, a Democrat, has stressed his background as a fifth-generation Hoosier and his public service in the state. Before heading to the nation’s capital for senatorial service, he was Indiana’s governor. Upon entering the contest for Senate this year, he said, “I’m a Hoosier through and through. I’ve always been a Hoosier.”
But Bayh’s residence has become a matter of interest on the campaign trail. He joined the McGuireWoods law firm to lobby on behalf of medical-device companies after departing Congress in 2011, and, as Geoffrey Norman noted, his family purchased a $3 million house in Washington’s Georgetown neighborhood and sold their previous home in the city’s northwest quadrant.
Bayh is running against Republican representative Todd Young.
