Trump: Joe Crowley ‘got his ass kicked’ by a ‘young woman’

President Trump on Wedneday said Rep. Joe Crowley, D-N.Y., “got his ass kicked” by a “young woman” after Crowley lost his primary race to progressive challenger Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Tuesday night.

“One of my biggest critics, a slovenly man named Joe Crowley, got his ass kicked,” Trump said, then added, “by a young woman who had a lot of energy. She had a lot of energy. I guess he didn’t see it.”

Ocasio-Cortez secured approximately 57 percent of votes cast in the primary race, while Crowley received approximately 42 percent, according to the New York Times.

The comments from Trump, which were made during a rally in Fargo, N.D., Wednesday, come after the president argued that Crowley should have “been nicer, and more respectful, to his president.”

“Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election,” Trump tweeted Tuesday night. “In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!”

Crowley had been a vocal critic of Trump’s immigration policies and, this month, condemned members of the GOP who promote “family values” but place “psychological torture” on illegal immigrants.

Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old Democratic Socialist, ran on her age and progressive positions, including abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Crowley, a 10-term congressman, is the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus and was considered a favorite to be the next House speaker if the chamber flips in the midterm elections this year.
