'An opportunist who sees the end of the opportunity': Trump critics blast Kellyanne Conway after she announces resignation

Critics of the Trump administration slammed Kellyanne Conway after she announced Sunday evening she is leaving the White House to spend more time with her children.

“I will be transitioning from the White House at the end of this month. George is also making changes,” Conway said in a statement.

“We disagree about plenty but we are united on what matters most: the kids. Our four children are teens and ‘tweens starting a new academic year, in middle school and high school, remotely from home for at least a few months. As millions of parents nationwide know, kids ‘doing school from home’ requires a level of attention and vigilance that is as unusual as these times,” she added.

Critics wished Conway “good riddance” following the announcement, lambasting her work as a counselor to President Trump.

“It’s not heartless to hold Kellyanne Conway responsible for the destruction she has wrought. I feel bad for any child in pain, including hers. I hope the child gets all the help in the world. As for Kellyanne, she doesn’t get a free pass on her way out the door. Nope,” tweeted Walter Shaub, the former director of the United States Office of Government Ethics.

Others echoed Shaub’s sentiment on Twitter.

“Read This: ‘Kellyanne Conway Is Leaving the White House to Focus on Family’. What BS. There is so much more here. She is bailing on going down with him after milking him for all he was worth. She is an opportunist who sees the end of the opportunity,” filmmaker Judd Apatow tweeted.

“I want to give Kellyanne Conway credit for resigning to focus on family, but I can’t. She spent years torturing her family so she could prop up a monster like Trump, and she only resigned after her kid threatened legal action. Hope the kid turns out okay,” the Palmer Report tweeted.

The announcement comes after Conway’s 15-year-old daughter, Claudia Conway, repeatedly condemned the Trump administration publicly, as well as her mother.

Claudia Conway tweeted on Saturday, “i’m devasted that my mother is actually speaking at the RNC. like DEVASTATED beyond compare.” She added that she is also seeking emancipation.

George Conway, Kellyanne Conway’s husband and noted Republican critic of the president, will also step down from his role at the anti-Trump PAC, the Lincoln Project.

“So I’m withdrawing from @ProjectLincoln to devote more time to family matters. And I’ll be taking a Twitter hiatus. Needless to say, I continue to support the Lincoln Project and its mission. Passionately,” he tweeted Sunday evening.
