Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., refused to give President Trump credit for the economy’s strong showing.
Speaking to CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union” Sunday, Klobuchar was asked to comment on whether she gives Trump credit for the record unemployment numbers and she demurred.
“I give our workers and our businesses the credit,” Klobuchar said. “When you’re out there across the country, you see people working harder and harder every day, and this has meant that our businesses are strong and we’re selling American goods.”
“That being said a lot of people aren’t sharing in this prosperity because of the costs — the cost of college, the cost of healthcare, the fact that the president had promised he would bring down the prices of their prescription drugs and that just hasn’t happened,” she said.
Tapper pushed back, noting that the unemployment rate was the lowest it has been since 1969, 3.9%, but Klobuchar refused to credit Trump, and instead highlighted former President Barack Obama’s time in office.
