Happy birthday, SuperFresh.
“For 25 years, we have been committed to providing our customers with wholesome products and friendly service, and we?re pleased to express our gratitude to our loyal patrons through this special celebration.” said Harry Austin, vice president of store operations.
SuperFresh celebrated the anniversary with customers during the weekend with birthday cupcakes, product sampling, product discounts and giveaways.
There are about 30 SuperFresh stores in Maryland, including four in Baltimore, according to the store?s Web site. The North Charles Street store banner recently underwent a “fresh renaissance.”
“The years have shown that Baltimore not only has a long and rich history, but has also demonstrated the ability to reinvent itself in dramatic fashion,” Austin said. “The same can be said for our company, as we have enjoyed great success but also experienced great challenge and change over the years.”
SuperFresh opened its first store in Philadelphia in 1982. The company has grown from a handful of stores in the Philadelphia area to a regional chain with 76 stores, serving customersthroughout Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea. Co., SuperFresh?s parent company with headquarters in Montvale, N.J., was founded in 1859. The company operates 340 stores in the United States under seven retail banners, including SuperFresh, A&P, Waldbaum?s, A&P Super Foodmart, The Food Emporium, Sav-A-Center and Food Basics.
Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. totaled $6.9 billion in total sales for fiscal 2006, according to company records.
“With places and business trends evolving as they do, it is gratifying to observe the kind of continuity that we?ve enjoyed over the years, and we look forward to maintaining this tradition as we go forward,” Austin said.
