WASHINGTON (AP) — District of Columbia police say detectives have arrested a man after a woman reported an Uber car service driver had sexually assaulted her.
Police arrested 31-year-old Reshad Chakari of Alexandria, Virginia, early Saturday. He is charged with second-degree sexual abuse.
Police say the alleged assault occurred in the early morning hours of July 20 in the 1400 block of Rhode Island Avenue in Washington. According to a police report, the woman said Chakari touched her while she was sleeping in the car.
WTOP Radio (http://bit.ly/1rVgRBf ) reports Chakari was released on bond but cannot work for Uber or any car service company until his case is completed.
In a statement to WNEW Radio (http://cbsloc.al/1rMVcfs ), Uber says the company is taking the incident seriously and will assist with any investigation.
