Comedian and actress Sarah Silverman, previously a Bernie Sanders supporter, told an arena full of Bernie-backers to get over their candidate’s loss and throw their support behind Hillary Clinton.
Despite Silverman telling delegates she had emotionally and mentally conceded to Clinton, it was evident the crowd was not ready to join her. The audience — full of Sanders supporters — erupted in chants against Silverman and her newfound allegiance to the presumptive Democratic nominee.
“Can I just say to the Bernie or bust people, you’re being ridiculous,” Silverman said, unscripted.
“Hillary is our Democratic nominee and I will proudly vote for her,” Silverman said in a joint segment with Minnesota Sen. Al Franken.
Silverman defended Sanders’ campaign, attempting to reassure his supporters by telling attendees he “has already succeeded in so many ways” by bringing important issues to the conversation.
She also threw a few punches at Republican nominee Donald Trump, attacking the GOP leader for his wealth.
“I’m still emotionally four and calling people names from my golden-crusted sandbox because I was given money instead of human touch or coping tools,” Silver said.
After being told to stretch the segment longer, she praised Clinton for listening to Sanders.
