Fresh paving is flowing like lava onto city streets, according to Mayor Sheila Dixon.
Touting significant progress in paving roads faster, the mayor joined Department of Transportation officials on Tuesday to laud the achievements of the city?s “Orange Cone” program. Dixon said real progress has been made smoothing the city?s thoroughfares and byways.
“We?ve gotten things done,” Dixon said at a news conference.
She and Department of Transportation Director Alfred Foxx said that this year nearly 150 miles of roads have been repaved or are in the process of being paved ? nearly double the number paved in 2006.
“Mayor Dixon has made it a priority to find the financing to ensure the resurfacing could take place,” said her spokesman Anthony McCarthy.
The mayor also expressed support for a $600 million increase in the state road-rebuilding fund.
