Trump to attend Saturday’s Army-Navy game, White House says

President Trump will watch the annual Army-Navy football game live Saturday, the White House said, becoming the 10th sitting president to attend the match-up.

The storied game between the two service academies will take place in Philadelphia at Lincoln Financial Field, with kickoff set for 3 p.m.

“It is an honor and a privilege to have the Commander-in-Chief attend the Army-Navy game,” Vice Admiral Walter E. “Ted” Carter Jr., superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy, said in a statement Wednesday. “This is the biggest rivalry in sports, but more than that, it is a visible demonstration to the American people that in spite of being rivals on the field their military is united and stands in defense of their freedom.”

This year’s Army-Navy game will mark the first for Trump as president. In 2016, he attended as president-elect when the game was played in Baltimore.

After Army’s 14-13 victory over Navy last year, Trump took to Twitter to congratulate the team for bringing home the Commander in Chief’s Trophy.

President Barack Obama attended the game in 2011, when it was played at FedEx Field in Landover, Md.

This year’s game will be the 119th edition of the rivalry.
