Pro-life demonstrators march on Supreme Court

Despite warnings of freezing rain, tens of thousands of people, marched in the District on Monday to protest Roe v. Wade a day after its 39th anniversary.

March for Life, an annual pro-life rally, drew demonstrators from across the nation to protest the Supreme Court’s 1973 ruling that legalized abortion.

After a Mass at the Verizon Center, the protesters grouped in front of the Smithsonian Castle at noon to hear remarks from House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio). They then marched east down Constitution Avenue toward Capitol Hill and the Supreme Court, chanting and carrying signs with slogans such as “It’s a child, not a choice.”

The march also comes after President Obama reaffirmed a rule Friday requiring religious institutions to provide contraceptive coverage to its employees.
