Trump endorses GOP nominee for Tennessee governor Bill Lee

President Trump endorsed conservative political outsider Bill Lee as the Tennessee GOP gubernatorial candidate the day after Rep. Dianne Black lost the primary to the constructions executive.

“Congratulations to Bill Lee of Tennessee on his big primary win for Governor last night. He ran a great campaign and now will finish off the job in November. Bill has my total and enthusiastic Endorsement,” Trump tweeted.


Lee spent $5 million of his personal money on his campaign, according to MarketWatch. As recently as last month, the businessman’s poll numbers were down double digits, but surged last week.

Black, the former chair of the Budget Committee, had the endorsement of Vice President Mike Pence and was favored to win the primary.
