The legal defense fund for fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe has collected more than $530,000, and will stop taking donations Monday night.
The GoFundMe was set up less than a week ago, on Thursday, and initially set a goal of raising $150,000.

In a Monday statement, McCabe said the support and donations left him and his legal team “stunned and extraordinarily grateful.”
”As reports of additional OIG investigations, congressional oversight hearings, and misleading information about the circumstances of my firing have continued to emerge, the need for substantial resources for a legal team has become clear. The fact is that if I am going to continue taking a stand against the unfair way I have been treated, I will need the help of a talented and courageous team behind me,” McCabe said.
McCabe said he hopes their efforts will “encourage others to stand up for themselves, and the truth, as well.”
His legal team, which is led by former Justice Department Inspector General Michael Bromwich, is reportedly still working to figure out what his pension and benefits will be following his firing.
McCabe, a 21-year veteran of the FBI, was fired on March 16, two days before he planned to retire on his 50th birthday so he could collect a full pension.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired McCabe after the Justice Department’s Office of the Inspector General provided a report on “allegations of misconduct” by McCabe to the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility “after an extensive and fair investigation.”
