The Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce raised $25,000 from its members and friends to award as scholarships to five Montgomery College students. Three engineering students, one business student and one pharmacy student each received a $5,000 at the chamber’s recent celebration dinner and awards ceremony. “The gift means more to me than you can imagine,” said Rich Erickson, an engineering student and one of the scholarship winners. “Like many others lately, I lost my job due to the sagging economy.” The other scholarship winners were Syed Elahi, Bubacarr Jallow, Shaswat Koirola and Alfredo Valdiviezo.
