Former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile on Tuesday called the 2016 presidential election illegitimate, and said it may have ended differently had Russia not interfered.
“My personal view is that it was not a legitimate election,” Brazile told MSNBC “Hardball” host Chris Matthews Tuesday night.
“So it doesn’t count?” Matthews asked.
“Chris, remember, I am the campaign manager of Al Gore in 2000, and where, as you well know, the Supreme Court decided. This election will always have an asterisk by it,” Brazile said.
Brazile said she would return to Matthews’ show after special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the election ends.
Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton recently deemed last year’s election as not legitimate.
Brazile said she believes the former secretary of state was referring to a “disruptive political season” due to Russia’s manipulating news on social media and alleged collusion between President Trump’s associates and WikiLeaks. She urged the Trump administration “to clean up our system, so that no more foreign governments or no foreign meddling would occur in our future.”
