Republicans and Democrats alike have suggested that Sen. Barack Obama hasn’t shown a willingness to take the gloves off during this presidential contest and take on Sen. John McCain with greater vigor.
But, if you ask Rep. Rahm Emmanuel, Obama’s time spent navigating the rough-and-tumble world of Chicago politics is proof enough that Obama’s got plenty of fight in him.
“Outside of the Bulls and the Chicago Cubs, politics is a full-time sport in Chicago,” Emmanuel told a morning roundtable Wednesday. Emmanuel, who represents Illinois’ 5th congressional district, added, “It’s a full-time sport in Chicago because we don’t have a lot of winning teams in Chicago. Chicago is famous for its politics because it is upfront in its style and in its substance.”
“Obama’s plenty tough,” he said.
