The Obama administration on Monday approved an offshore wind farm off the coast of Ocean City, Md., and is now seeking contractors to develop the 206-square-mile area of the Atlantic.
The Maryland wind farm, which will be roughly 10 miles from the coast, has been a key initiative during Gov. Martin O’Malley’s last four years in office.
The federal government approved the country’s first offshore wind farm off the coast of Cape Cod in April, but the project has not started looking for developers. Delaware is the only other state to have reached this stage in the process.
