Charlie Crist’s campaign focused on South Florida

MIAMI (AP) — Former Gov. Charlie Crist is spending a lot of time in South Florida these days.

The Republican-turned-Democrat’s previous campaigns have had a stronger focus on the I-4 corridor, north Florida and Southwest Florida. But now that he’s a Democrat, his focus is on Palm Beach, Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

The counties have about 1.5 million voters combined.

Crist is also aware that there was a drop in Democratic voter turnout in 2010 in Broward and Palm Beach counties compared to the 2006 gubernatorial election. That drop could have made the difference in a race that Democrat Alex Sink lost to Republican Gov. Rick Scott by only 61,550 votes.
