Mike Pence said Wednesday that Russia should face “severe consequences” if the FBI determines they were behind the email breach at the Democratic National Committee. Donald Trump’s running mate also slammed Hillary Clinton’s campaign for making assumptions about who’s responsible without having evidence to justify their claims.
“The FBI will get to the bottom of who is behind the hacking. If it is Russia and they are interfering in our elections, I can assure you both parties and the United States government will ensure there are serious consequences,” the Republican vice presidential nominee said in a statement issued by the Trump campaign.
“That said, the Democrats singularly focusing on who might be behind it and not addressing the basic fact that they’ve been exposed as a party who not only rigs the government, but rigs elections while literally accepting cash for federal appointments is outrageous,” Pence added.
“The American people now have absolute and further proof of the corruption that exists around Hillary Clinton. It should disqualify her from office, if the media did their job,” he said.
Clinton’s campaign manager, Robby Mook, attempted to pin the DNC email leaks on Russian hackers this week, alleging that they are trying to help Trump get elected because he’s said kind things about Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“I don’t think it’s coincidental that these emails were released on the eve of our convention here, and I think that’s disturbing,” Mook told CNN.
