Obama: The election is like ‘Love and Hip-Hop’

President Obama on Friday continued his comparison of the 2016 election to reality TV programs, and said the election has devolved into such ridiculous name-calling and superficial drama that it’s more like the VH1 show “Love and Hip Hop.”

“It’s not even Survivor or The Bachelorette – it’s like some Love and Hip Hop stuff,” Obama told a crowd in Fayetteville, N.C., referring to the popular VH1 series that documents the lives of hip hop and R&B musicians, their girlfriends and families.

“I mean it’s just some stuff,” he added. “Up until this election, we would have said it’s completely disqualifying and yet somehow everybody’s got accustomed to it and [is] acting like it’s normal.”

One day earlier, during a rally in Florida, Obama left the comparison at just Survivor and the Bachelorette.

Referring to Donald Trump’s comments about women and a video in which he brags about forcing himself on women, Obama said Trump supporters are “making excuses” for his comments, saying “that he didn’t mean it – or it’s locker-room talk or ‘but as long as he supports tax cuts for the rich …”

“C’mon, man,” Obama remarked, invoking his new phrase of choice to underscore his outrage over Trump’s behavior.

Obama went on argue that the qualities Trump is displaying will only become magnified once he is president.

“You have more power so, as a consequence, folks will enable you to be more who you are and it will shine a spotlight on who you are,” he said. “If you disrespected women before you left office, you will disrespect women after you leave office.”

The same, he said, is true if “you don’t denounce Klan officers” who say they support you.
