The west span of the Bay Bridge reopened around noon Tuesday — after traffic backed up for miles — after inspectors spent the morning examining an “unusual vertical movement” of the bridge.
Workers on the bridge noticed the movement overnight and evacuated for safety. At daybreak, a team of inspectors started examining the structure, officials said.
Maryland Transportation Authority officials were alternating letting eastbound and westbound traffic pass on the two-lane east span of the bridge and warn of delays.
Drivers can visit md511.org or call 1-877-229-7726 for traffic conditions at the bridge.
