Clinton’s Strengths in Ohio

Limited exit poll information points to a Clinton win in Ohio tonight. You can see the results here. Women represented 59 percent of all Ohio Democratic voters–good news for Senator Clinton who won among females 54-45. Obama won among men by a narrower 52-47 spread, more good news for Clinton who was not expected to do that well among male voters. Senator Clinton also won among Catholics and Protestants. Finally, the two candidates nearly split among those who watched the debates, suggesting Clinton and Obama battled to a draw in that venue. Unfortunately, the exit poll data released on line right now do not include some other important variables like union membership, age, education and income. More detailed information could be released later tonight. Stay tuned. Update: More extensive exit poll data are now online. Continuing a pattern from other primaries, Clinton did extremely well among those with only a high school education, winning 63-36. Obama wins those with a post-graduate education 56-42. And supporting the notion of a late surge by Clinton, she also won those who decided in the last three days, 55-44.
