Trump takes first lead since May in ABC poll

Hillary Clinton is trailing Donald Trump for the first time since May, according to a new national tracking poll.

Forty-six percent of likely voters are supporting Trump and 45 percent are in favor of Clinton, a 1-point lead that’s well within the sampling error of a ABC news/Washington Post daily tracking poll released Tuesday. Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson hit a low point at just 3 percent and the Green Party’s Jill Stein is at 2 percent.

A week earlier, Clinton was well ahead in the poll, 50-38.

The poll reflects a sudden loss of enthusiasm for Clinton in the wake of the FBI’s announcement that it has reopened its investigation into Clinton’s private emails. As of Sunday, 53 percent of voters are very enthusiastic about Trump and 45 percent reported the same about Clinton.

A week earlier, Clinton’s enthusiasm measure was 7 points higher a week earlier.

The telephone-based poll of 1,128 likely voters was conducted Oct. 27-30 and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 points.
